Washington Redskins: Four keys to beating the Arizona Cardinals

The Washington Redskins look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. The Redskins are in a desperate need of a win if they look to turn around their season. The Titians are coming off a 16-14 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that the Skins defeated by 31 points. The Redskins on the other hand are coming off a 30-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The game will be played this Sunday on FedEx Field at 1pm on CBS.

The Run

The Redskins should look to establish the run early against a Titans defense that allows 127.7 yards per game. Alfred Morris has yet to have a 100 yard game this season. If the Redskins commit to the running game early, it could result in Morris having his best game of the season. The Titans are currently ranked 24th against the run this season.

Jordan Reed and DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson

Now that Jordan Reed has returned, the Redskins must look to incorporate him into the offense like they did last week. If he picks up where he left off from last week, it will open up things for DeSean Jackson who had some big plays down the field last game. Jackson has been the only bright spot for the Redskins offense these last few games. Reed and Jackson both have the ability to take advantage of a Titans secondary that has allowed five touchdowns to opposing tight ends this year.

Kirk Cousins

In what is expected to be an evenly matched game at the quarterback position, Kirk Cousins must prove that he is a better backup quarterback compared to Charlie Whitehurst. That is easier said than done for Cousins who leads NFL quarterbacks with eight interceptions on the year. If the Redskins can get the running game going early, it will give Cousins a better chance to be efficient on third down plays.

Defensive Pressure

Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan, and Jason Hatcher must have a huge game. The only one of those three who has been playing well this season is Kerrigan. Hatcher and Orakpo both were nonexistent last game against the Cardinals allowing Carson Palmer to throw for 250 yards and two touchdowns. This game, all three of them have a chance to have a break out day because the Titans offense has become stagnant since starting Quarterback Jake Locker went down due to a thumb injury.

The Redskins’ 13 turnovers have resulted in 43 points for their opponents this season. In the Redskins only win this season, Cousins didn’t turn the ball over. If the Redskins want to snap their losing streak, they have to limit the turnovers. This game will most likely come down to the battle of backup quarterbacks Cousins and Whitehurst.
